Green Drinks is an international phenomenon where like minded individuals meet up every month. Usually there are one or two speakers who share their experience and ideas for sustainable living and environmental responsibility followed by a lot of networking. The Lahore Chapter was started by PSN seven months ago and now, it is coming up again, with an even greater impact on November 29, 2011 at Nairang Art Gallery.
This month we have once again got some very interesting speakers. One of the speakers will be from Wateen’s HR who will be presenting on Wateen’s Green Practices as a company – a great opportunity to learn about leadership and social responsibility practised by the company.

Reflection on Mumbai’s Transportation
1Whenever I board the local train, my whole thought process is devoted to the transportation system in Mumbai. I found Mumbai locals very cruel and insane. Murderers of 4000 people every year. Always jam-packed, no concept of personal space. They have their own speciality -as people from all classes board the same train whether there is a distinction of 1st -2nd class which is as usual for Indian railways. After a 3-4 month long honeymoon with trains, I figured out alternative mode to travel-Best Buses. I was happy with my discovery but felt incomplete. Roads choked with traffic, trains over-crowded. Hiccups like these pushed my brain to the wall. I was keen curious to know how Mass transits in a city like Mumbai can be developed. Geoffrey West: The surprising math of cities and corporations
0Take a look at this TED talk by Geoffrey West who runs some data about the life cycle of cities, companies and people.
West posits that cities and in some circumstances companies avoid collapse through innovation, something that Malthus didn’t fully account for. However, the catch is that collapse comes sooner after every innovation, so more innovations are required to avoid collapse. The point that he neglects to discuss is if there is a metaphorical heart attack for cities, just as there are for humans.

0With the launch of the Pakistan Urban Forum on March 1st (the first of its kind that includes policy makers, government officials, academia, NGOs and civil society with live streaming and international speakers) , Pakistan Sustainability Network wants to know what makes good cities great? So we are dedicating the month of March to our urban centres which makes up a mere 27% of the population, a unique trend that is only seen in South Asia, as much of the world is rapidly urbanizing the majority of its populations.
