Going for Vacations? Consider Eco-Tourism
0Our relationship with the winter season is similar to U2’s song With or Without You. We spend our entire summers cribbing about how hot or humid it is, and reminiscing warm blankets, stylish sweaters, hot coffee, savoury soups and long walks – the pleasures that we associate with winters. And of course eating peanuts late in the night! Come winters and most of us can be found snuggled in our blankets, with laptops hugged closely or TV remote in our hand. Needless to mention, surrounded by a month’s ration since it’s a challenging task to abandon warm comforters and step out to get something. Hit by the winter blues too soon, the weak-hearted and lazy ones among us wish they could hibernate throughout winters.
On the other hand, the adventurous ones who truly appreciate and enjoy every season begin planning vacations as soon as the temperature dips. Come rain or More >
Disconnect to Connect
0Few months ago, a video was circulating on Facebook titled Disconnect to Connect . The video carried a beautiful message that while instant messaging has reduced the distances and helps one stay connected 24/7 we often disregard the one sitting right ‘next to us’ seeking for our attention.
Has that ever happened to you? Have you considered it might be hurtful if not annoying for others? I for one certainly have been in this situation. I have been invited to evening teas and Sunday brunches only to find my friends over-occupied with their social paraphernalia. Everyone for some moment seemed invisible to the other. Even after the meal arrived, people held their forks in one hand, strongly gripping their cell phone in the other. A small talk here about how appealing the food appears or a comment that meat isn’t tender enough and a text there. Seeking attention by sharing with the world, “Yaaaaaaaay!!! More >
You the People have the Power
0Today more than ever this message goes out to the hearts of every one in Pakistan and citizens of the world over. In light of the escalating violence, the great unraveling of civil liberties and suffocating inequalities, let us take pause for a moment. This speech will stir something within you.
This epic speech was filmed in 1940 by Charlie Chapin as a satire against Nazi Germany. The film caused a huge stir, and some say that the public outcry from this video helped push the US to join the war against Nazi Germany.
I’m sorry but I don’t want to be an Emperor – that’s not my business – I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live
Happy Birthday Pakistan!
0From all of us at PSN, we hope you have a wonderful day of celebration.
We know there is a lot to be done to make our country great, but it all starts with love, and we are all great at showing love on 14th August! Lets fuel our passion for our great country by contributing to great things that build our nation.
Our friends in Karachi are organizing a Pot-hole filling event to help raise awareness about the need for citizens to be involved in the development of their communities. So if you are in Karachi do join the fun!
Also, across Pakistan (and now Jordan) people are making a pledge for compassion. See what they have been up to and make a pledge today. For one simple action can truly make a difference.
Remember, in Pakistan everyday can be GREEN.
Ramadan Compassion Challenge
0This Ramadan lets give peace a chance. Ramadan is a beautiful and spiritual time in Pakistan. It is when we are reminded of our frailty and our power. For many it is a time to reconnect with friends and family, God, or for some, to atone for past sins by giving in charity. It is also a time of discount iftaar deals, and new designer Eid clothes. Whichever way you choose to spend this month is up to you, after all, you will reap only that which you sow.
Now we all know that the country has been gripped in violence, natural disasters, and failed security, economic and educational promises. So it is only natural that most of us feel like we cannot make a difference, that no act can change the way things have become, after all “this is just another day in Pakistan” right?
What if it wasn’t. More >
